Avoid Traffic With Your Pioneer Navigation System
How It Works
With the added traffic tuner, your Pioneer navigation unit checks real-time traffic information transmitted by Clear Channel Broadcasting, Inc. When the navigation system receives updated traffic information, it overlays the info on your map, also displaying detailed text information when available.
When you are traveling along a route and there is traffic information on your current route, the system will detect it and ask you if you would like to be rerouted, or suggest another route automatically.
Note: the system acquires the traffic information up to 100 miles in radius from the vehicle position. If there is a lot of traffic information around your vehicle, the radius will be less than 100 miles.
What Constitutes "Traffic"?
The term "traffic congestion" indicates the following types of traffic information: stop and go, stopped traffic, closed/blocked roads. All of these events are considered while calculating your routes.
Viewing Traffic Events
Pioneer navigation systems offer a few different ways of viewing these Traffic Events:
- Traffic Event List
A simple list of text descriptions of events that lie between you and your destination. You can sort the list alphabetically, according to distance, or in order of severity. - Map View
You can also view the Traffic Events on your map. Each event is signified by a small icon and the flow of traffic can also be monitored (green roads to indicate faster than average speeds, yellow for a slow-down, and red for speeds slower than 15 MPH.
Alternate Routes
The navigation system checks at regular intervals whether or not there is the traffic information on your route. If the navigation system detects any traffic congestion on your current route, the system tries to find a better route in the background. The following types of traffic incidents on the route will be checked: stop and go, stopped traffic and closed/blocked roads except for closed freeway exits/entrances.
If there is information about traffic congestion on your current route and if an alternative route can be found, the navigation system will recommend a new alternative route automatically. In such a case, the following screen will appear.
